AIA Western North Carolina - Riverbank Cleanup: MountainTrue + AIA Southeast COTE Collaborative

Join AIA Committee on the Environment, Southeast Chapters Volunteer Community Event in Buncombe County hosted by AIA WNC to support MountainTrue in living their mantra “Protecting the Places We Share”. This focused riverbank cleanup is vital in aiding the region’s rivers heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene. AIA Aspire attendees from out of town, local AIA members and all community are invited to participate to give back to the beloved ecology and community that generously hosts AIA Aspire and Climate Symposium annually. Help to restore our waterways!

Location: Buncombe County- a river area approximately 15 minutes from downtown Asheville. A specific address and site details will be shared with registrants one week prior to event.

What to Bring, What to Wear: Please wear closed toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves (waders or mud boots if you have them). Bring your refillable drinking vessel, and perhaps a change of clothes for afterwards in case you get wet or dirty.

We Will Provide: We will have plenty of water, insect repellent, sunscreen, trash bags, gloves, safety glasses, and buckets for use, along with some hand tools such as shovels, loppers, hand saws, rakes, etc. MountainTrue will take care of removing all collected trash and debris. Personal Protective Gear will be provided on site, and we will provide snacks.

What to Expect: Sweat Equity for 2 hours, Sustainable Conversations, New Peers, giving back, and 1 hour for a delicious lunch and a local Asheville culinary artisan.
