Author and architect Allison Anderson will talk about her book, Climate Adaptation for Architects: A Design Toolkit. The will present this a comprehensive reference for adaptation strategies to create a more resilient built environment at the community, site, and building scale. Each of the 45 chapters includes a Definition of the adaptation measure, the Background in which the measure was developed and tested, and the context in which it might be successful. Key Design Considerations outlines questions, recommendations, implementation steps, and metrics for success.
Anderson will share how design teams can implement these strategies for impact on four systems: social, environmental, economic, and spatial considerations. Anderson will talk about how architecture teams in any region, working on projects of any scale, can bring these considerations into their processes and how they relate to the AIA Framework for Design Excellence and four outcome categories. A robust Q&A period, first with the reviewer and then with the session participants, will follow the presentation.
