Construction Project Manager II

Responsibilities/Qualifications:

The Construction Project Manager II position is responsible for managing the design and construction phases for County building projects—for both renovations and new builds.  The position requires licensure as a professional Architect or Engineer, and practice experience in their field.  Incumbents will advertise for, interview, and select design consultants, contractors, and third-party consultants for the projects.  Once a selection has been made, the Construction Project Manager II will negotiate the contract and fee.  Other duties include preparing cost estimates and project budgets, fiscal management of project funds, programming, planning, creating schedules, coordinating the project team, and coordinating staff and/or public involvement.  The Construction Project Manager II also supervises, reviews, and approves designs; and oversees with the bidding process managed by the contractor.

  • Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and ten years of progressively responsible project management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

  • Licensing Requirements:  Valid Driver's License.

  • Positions require one of the following: licensure in NC as an Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE).

  • The incumbent should be able to work independently within a complex team environment and be capable of open collaboration between design consultant teams, county personnel, general contractors, construction managers, the public, and other stakeholders.
