July O.W.L.S. Sponsored By: Woodworks
Now available to North American building designers, Cross laminated timber (CLT) is an engineered wood building system designed to complement light- and heavy-timber framing options. Because of its high strength and dimensional stability, it can be used as an alternative to concrete, masonry and steel in many building types. This presentation will introduce CLT with a series of project examples that demonstrate its use and associated benefits in a range of applications. Topics will include some of the more challenging aspects of CLT building design, including fire & life safety, acoustic performance and building envelope. Resources available to design and construction professionals, such as the new US CLT Handbook, will also be discussed.
