Self defense, communications, ergonomics, tax breaks.. What do any of these things have to do with architecture or design? This year's Design Conference will include workshops on how to defend your design in the construction phase, communicate with present and potential clients, learn the ergonomics of the workplace, help make your clients' projects a reality with tax breaks, learn about rehabbing homes and much more. Experience architecture and its impact on the community in a town that knows how to deliver just that-- beautiful architecture, in a beautiful setting, and a great community.
The theme for the conference is ART+COMMUNITY+ARCHITECTURE and Asheville delivers on that theme.
The 2010 Design Conference features a comprehensive lineup of education programs, and dynamic keynote speakers. We've planned a conference to cater to the diverse needs of our membership.
The conference will also take you to the river studios where Asheville's art is created, to the breweries where the beer is created, to the streets where Asheville's culture is alive, and to the very large house where a diversity of architecture was ensured for Asheville for more than a century. All of these opportunities are available as a backdrop to a conference that offers nationally known speakers, book signings, an exhibition of new green products, more than 12 HSW/SD credits, recovery networking, and the first ever awards ceremony under the stars, on the lawn of the Biltmore House. The PreConference workshop, "Zero Energy Homes," will discuss how to develop energy efficient and renewable energy systems that combine to create zero energy homes. The workshop will also give examples of zero energy homes that have been built in the southeast and will review the positive economics that can result form these homes. It will also review basic renewable energy technology from a designers point of view, focusing on photovoltaic systems. Register today to earn 7 HSW/SD hours. To register, click here.
