2010 Design and Chapter Awards

Chapter Award nominations and Design Award Entry fees must be in by 5:00 p.m. July 30, 2010.  All submissions must be turned in by 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2010.

Design Awards 

There will be two categories of Design Awards to be called “Honor Award” and “Merit Award”. These awards will be granted regardless of entry category – the categories will simply be used to view projects of a similar type comprehensively.

Chapter Awards

AIA North Carolina invites nominations for its five highest honors, scheduled for presentation on the evening of Saturday, September 18, 20101 at Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC.

Nominations for Chapter Awards are now being accepted.  To nominate a firm, please download and fill out the application below and submit it to AIA North Carolina, 115 W. Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.  Nominations forms must be received by July 30, 2010. Nominations of individuals, organizations, or firms may be made by members, the public, or by AIA North Carolina Sections.  All completed submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2010, at the AIA North Carolina office.

2010 Firm of the Year Award

The AIA North Carolina Firm Award shall be awarded to a North Carolina firm that has consistently produced quality architecture with a verifiable level of client satisfaction for a period of at least 10 years as an established presence in this state.  This award is the highest honor the Chapter can bestow upon a firm.

2010 Gail Lindsey Sustainability Award

The AiA North Carolina Gail A. Lindsey Award shall be awarded to a North Carolina individual or organization that has positively impacted the attainment of a sustainable and harmonious environment, espousing ideals pioneered by the late Gail Lindsey, FAIA.

2010 William H. Deitrick Service Medal

The AIA North Carolina William H. Deitrick Service Medal will be presented to an AIA North Carolina member who exhibits extraordinary service to the community, profession or AIA North Carolina.  The medal is named in honor of the late William Henley Deitrick, FAIA, a former president of AIA North Carolina

2010 F. Carter Williams Gold Medal

This is the highest honor presented by the Chapter to a member of AIA North Carolina.  It is awarded to an individual in recognition of a distinguished career or extraordinary accomplishments as an architect.  The award is named in memory of Raleigh architect, F. Carter Williams, FAIA.

2010 Kamphoefner Prize

Established by Henry and Mabel Kamphoefner, the Kamphoefner Prize encourages individuals and firms to pursue the fundamental principles of the modern movement in architecture.  The $10,000 prize is awarded annually at the Summer Design Conference as funds permit.

Those interested in submitting for these awards must first register for the Design Awards.  

2010 Tower Awards

Recognizing well-designed projects by AIANC members that exemplify historic preservation and adaptive reuse in renovation, restoration or rehabilitation of a historic structure; new / infill construction within a historic context; or a new construction addition to a historic structure. Tower Award submissions must be on the National Register of Historic Places; a contributing building in a National Register historic district; a contributing building in a locally-designated historic district, or a locally designed landmark.

2010 COTE Awards

Recognizing well-designed projects by AIANC members that exemplify the COTE Measures of Sustainability. AIANC COTE awards must include a description with key environmental features, and narratives responding to specific categories, indicating an understanding of the connections between them. Selection favors well-designed solutions that exhibit an integration of natural systems and appropriate technology quantifying features when possible (using suggested metrics), verification through building systems modeling, analysis, and best practices.  

2010 Brick Awards

The Brick Awards are conducted and co-sponsored by Brick Industry Southeast Region.  The 2010 Brick Awards will recognize achievements by North Carolina architectural firms who promote and display exemplary architectural design when clay brick is used as a predominant building material. Awards will honor the best and most innovative use of brick in commercial, residential, landscape projects or other unique applications. Please indicate interest in being considered for this award along with your Design Awards Entry Form, and fill out the accompanying form to send along with it.   

 


J. Hyatt Hammond Scholarship

 In 1999, AIA North Carolina Gold Medalist J. Hyatt Hammond, FAIA, established a fund to provide scholarships for young professionals to attend the AIA North Carolina Summer Design Conference. Scholarships of up to $500 are awarded annually. Eligibility is restricted to AIA North Carolina associate members and architect members who have been licensed less than 10 years.  Download the form below and return it to AIA North Carolina by 5:00 p.m.  August 11, 2010
