Staff
David Crawford, Hon. AIA
Executive Vice President
David Crawford joined AIA North Carolina at the beginning of 2001 after serving as Executive Director with AIA San Diego for ten years. Prior to that, he served as Director of Professional Practice and Assistant Director of Government Relations with the AIA California Council for four years.
Crawford received his B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton. He was selected to finish his undergraduate work as part of the Cal State University system's prestigious Sacramento Semester Program. Following graduation in 1984 he worked briefly as a political operative for a California State Assembly member and then began his legislative career as a manger for the state's first online legislative tracking service. He began his lobbying career in 1986 with the California Probation, Parole and Correctional Association.
Crawford sat on the Board of Directors of the two accredited architecture schools in San Diego for 5 years and served on various city and regional advisory committees.
He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and in 1996-97 chaired the California Council of Architectural Component Executives (California CACE). In 2006 he will be President of the National Council of Architectural Component Executives.
Jo Ellen High
Business Manager
Jo Ellen High joined the AIA North Carolina staff in August 1989. Some of her duties as business manager include managing the financial records, maintaining records for AIA-PAC and NC Arch. Foundation, and serving as staff liaison for the annual design awards program. For five years prior to working with the AIA, High held a financial position with the Biblical Recorder, the news journal for the Baptist State Convention, headquartered in Raleigh. High attended business college and received an accounting certificate in 1970. She has previous experience in the fields of insurance and mortgage banking.
Marynell Gehrke
Director Of Special Events
Marynell Gehrke joined the AIA North Carolina staff in January 1995 after working since 1992 with Olson Management Group, an association management company. As director of special events, Gehrke acts as staff liaison for the convention (Summer Design Conference) and continuing education committees and all AIA North Carolina meeting and conference planning. Gehrke received a bachelor of science degree from the University of North Carolina in industrial relations in 1984.
Kathie Rainey
Director of Member Services
Kathie Rainey joined AIA North Carolina in 1998 as Administrative Assistant to the Executive Vice President. A North Carolina native, she comes from Pinehurst, but calls Raleigh home now. Her many years of retail management bring a strong background of customer service to our members. Her experience as an executive assistant in various corporate settings is well suited to the AIA.
Keri DIxon
Director of Programs and Communications
Keri Dixon joined AIA NC in June 2010. Keri is a graduate of Western Carolina University in North Carolina and studied Professional Writing and History. Keri has a background in communications, and previously worked as the Director of Communications for The Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina. She has experience with creating and maintaining websites, electronic newsletters, and magazines (digital and print), as well as experience creating short videos and photographic coverage of events. She uses these skills as a part of the AIA NC staff to offer members services for sharing information throughout the state. Her major responsibilities include the production of the Architext newsletter, maintenance of the AIA NC website, and email updates to AIA members through the News & Notes. Her background in communications makes her well suited for creating an active and interactive environment for AIA NC members.
